Battersea's immense, complete brand overlay

Battersea Power Station is a true London landmark and some 40 years after it was decommissioned has been re-opened in what is one of the city’s most ambitious and most exciting renovation projects.

Now open to the public, this immense space with its four iconic white chimneys has been transformed into a remarkable retail and leisure experience.

During the run-up to the official opening, the client required a complete brand overlay to be created and installed on a scale appropriate to the immensity of the building itself.

From hoarding decoration to giant banners, illuminated 'retro' signage and retail window graphics covering glazing throughout the building over four levels, we printed in excess off 8,000 square meters of eco and fire rated materials to achieve this amazing result.

The Challenge

This was a project on an immense scale, with a requirement to be accomplished within an extremely tight timeframe that left no room for error or reworking.

The Octink design team had to rapidly assimilate huge volumes of CAD data and plans in order to achieve the turnaround of bespoke aluminium structures, vinyl and fabric banners and illuminated signs – sometimes within as little as 24 hours.

While speed was of the essence, the ability to design, produce and install 24/7 within a highly regulated site was paramount.

Often working through the night, the Octink installation team clocked up over 1,200 installation hours, operating at all times within tight health and safety and logistical parameters and physical space constraints. The heritage value of the original building was also an important consideration at all times.
